Bread and Butter Pickles

Grandmas Bread and Butter Pickles

I attended a Pickling class in Pacific Grove, at the Happy Kitchen Girl

Coffee shop. Below I have a

blog post of my time there.   Last weekend I grabbed a girlfriend,  she

and I had a canning spree! We

first canned our pickles, and I'm telling you this is the best recipe ever.

 Its not your typical sweet

butter pickles, this is slightly sweet and has a kick to it! My family and I

devoured my first jar.

Here is Grandma's Bread 'n Butter Pickles

from the Happy Girl Kitchen

www.happygirlkitchen.com

THIS RECIPE YIELDS 10 PINTS

6 pounds of pickling cucumbers (short and fat type, organic)

1 1/2 pounds of small white onions, sliced into thin rounds

1/2 cup of sea salt

4 cups of apple cider vinegar (I used braggs)

2  cups of filtered water

3 cups of sugar (organic)

1/4 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp yellow mustered seeds

1/4 tsp of celery seeds

I ADDED A 1/4 TSP OF PEPPERED FLAKES FOR THE KICK!

Wash cucumbers and remove the blossom ends. Slice the cucumbers an

1/8 of an inch, toss with

onions and salt. Cover with ice cubes and sit for 3 hours. drain.

Meanwhile run your jars in dishwasher and lids in a pot to boil.

Start your Brine with the vinegar, sugar and water, just to a boiling point

 then turn down the heat,

simmer.

When all has been accomplished, add spices to jars, pack with pickles and

onions. Pour hot liquid

over the up to the filling line leaving a 1/2 space. let out bubbles.  Close

jars finger tip tight, (great

example kitchen girl.) process for 10 min in Hot Bath.

Store jars in cool, dry place for 3 weeks.

Have Fun!!!

Check out the above website, they offer all different types of classes,

great couple, super friendly and

knowledgeable.

Also if your new to "Canning" I recommend starting out with the "Ball Book", its been around

forever and teaches all the basics of canning. Once you develop the basics

and are comfortable, you

can upgrade to more advanced unique canning recipe books.

Have a Blessed Day!!

GRANDMA'S BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES

This summer I took a pickling class at the "Happy

girl Kitchen" coffee shop in down town

Pacific Grove.  Owned by a sweet couple  who

believes in sustainability and organic living.

Although they prepare and sell their own canning

line, they do not hesitate to share their knowledge

and talent with their community and anyone who

shares the same passion.

Easy Plum Jam

long have had this tree?".  That very day, we picked plums and

made plum jam, there was no way I was going to pass on this

beautiful opportunity to enjoy your own personal reserve. While

the plum jam came out perfect, I unfortunately was unable to bring

any back with me to Cali. But left a little family Legacy for her

family to enjoy.

Below is a recipe I found on Pintrist

And of course did my own tradition twist, organic plums, and

sugar.  I also used one green apple cut in quarters (peeled and

seeded) for my pectin. I boil for 40 min, turn off burner let set for

30 min and then re-simmer for another 40, stirring frequently. Also

don't forget to do your cold plate test.

MY DOOR

I started my obsession with doors about two years ago, not really

realizing it. I just knew that every time I came across a Door, I had

to pin it! They just spoke to me. Going forward, I realized my soul

was speaking to me, begging me to open them.  Here I start my

journey, I have no idea where I am going, but I'm sure looking

forward to whatever comes my way.

Never Be Afraid

"Never Be afraid of the unknown, to a known God"

.. I read this quote somewhere, wrote it down. Time to time I read it,

it brings a lot of peace to me. It erases a lot of worry. Our life is

truly gods plan ! I learned that very well in my life. I am someone

who like to "Acheive" work my butt off to get there, then

"WHOOSH" there it goes. God had a different direction for me. I

just laugh now, and say, okay God, whatever you say....
